Paper Piecing

Published by inkypaws at 6:45 am under Fun stuff

Paper Piecing is a technique I use all the time. It’s really simple and you get a great result.

Step 1 - Stamp your image on CS (I used Whisper White). This will be your base for layering.

Step 2 - Stamp the same image again on colored CS or patterned paper (I used Ruby Red for the balloons and DP from DCWV for the dress and shoes).

Step 3 - Carefully cut out the images that will be layered.

Step 4 - Color your background before layering.

Step 5 - Add your layers. I leave some edges loose to create more shadow. In this case, the bottom edge of the dress.

Step 6 -Finish your card!

    Hi Jeanne,
Great tutorial! I’ll have to try this out. You picked a great way to showcase it with the patterned paper/dress/shoes. And the final card is stunning, but no surprises there! This was a very easy to follow tutorial. Where did you get the little holder for the card?

I finally got a chance to try out this technique. I really enjoyed it! Thanks again for the tutorial. (And thanks for letting me know about the stand - next time I’m over the border I’ll find a Hobby Lobby and look for one.)
Here are links to my cards in my gallery that I used paper piecing on. The photos didn’t come out too well - in real life the colours are nicer.

Great tutorial! I always thought it involved actual piercing and so I was kind of confused (doesn’t take much!). I appreciate your step by step instructions!

Thanks for the step by step directions. I’ve seen this on cards, but was not sure exactly how to accomplish such professional results. I just “LOVE” the bella stamps, although I do not have any just yet. I’ll be trying this technique today. Looks easy enough. I seriously appreciate you taking the time to explain it with photos.
