RBC08 - Masking
Ready for a Challenge? This week’s Rubbernecker Blogger Challenge RBC08 (see rules below) is to make a card using any type of Masking Technique.
I’m going to show you two different ways to mask on my card today.
This is a good basic technique that can be very elegant. For you guys who are just starting out and don’t have many supplies - I made this card with one small stamp and one color of ink.
Here’s my card:
Step 1:
I cut my CS in a 5″ x 5″ square and used two Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders) to cut out circles from the center. I used tape to keep the dies in position.
Here are the circles separated (I didn’t use the donut shaped piece of CS):
Step 2:
I cut two smaller circles (Nestabilities) out of copy paper to make a mask for my dots.
Step 3:
I sponged the lavender CS center circle while still in the Nestabilities die (I used the die as a mask) with Adirondack Eggplant.
Here’s the finished sponged circle:
Step 4:
Using my copy paper small circle mask I sponged circles randomly onto my CS. Some of the circles were sponged lightly and some (darker) to make darker I applied more ink.
Here’s it is all sponged:
Step 5:
I stamped the Daisy image in all the circles. On the lighter spots I stamped my image onto scrap paper once before stamping to lighten.
Step 6:
Cut out and emboss a smaller circle out using White CS.
Step 7:
Stamp the Daisy image on a Post-it note and cut out. Stamp the Daisy once on your White circle and cover it with the Post-it flower mask. Stamp two more flowers one on each side of the first.
Step 8:
Take off the Post-it mask and color the flower. I used a Ninja Waterbrush and Adirondack Eggplant reinker.
Step 9:
Assemble your card. I added Lemon Yellow Liquid Pearls to all the flower centers and to make a ropey border.
Here are the products I used to make this card:
Stamps: 37-1516283637 KK Flower Set #3 (KK Originals) - Rubbernecker Stamp Co.
Paper: Georgia Pacific White, Prism V101-D Majestic Purple Light, V141-E Magestic Purple Dark
Ink: Adirondack Eggplant
Accessories: Sponge, Lemon Yellow Liquid Pearls, Nestabilities Circle dies (Spellbinders), White GG Ribbon

Loved the idea of the circles so I used the same idea to mask the circles on this card, and also a mask to protect the image while I was creating the background dots.
