Copic Patterned Paper

Published by inkypaws at 11:13 am under Elzybells, Tutorials

Have you ever colored an image and then went looking for a patterned paper in your stash to match and just couldn’t find the right color? Here is an easy way to make your own. I’m using Copic markers. The first technique will work with any Alcohol ink marker. The second could be done with any type of marker.

Step 1: Scribble your Copic marker on white cardstock. I wasn’t concerned about getting a few marker lines. You won’t see them later. I used R14 (Light Rouge).

Step 2: Randomly make dots on your colored area with the Copic Blender pen. This pen works like bleach, your ink will start to fade. If you want your dots really white flip your cardstock over and go over the dots a second time (you’ll be able to see exactly where they are on the back). Just to show you the difference I did this extra step on the left side and took a picture. For this project I wanted whiter dots.

Here’s a quick shot of the back side:

Step 3: Stamp your image ( I used Bossy Girl from Elzybells) onto your homemade pattern paper.

Step 4: Stamp your image again on white cardstock and color.

Step 5: Cut your dress out the colored paper. This will be added right on top of the white paper.

Step 6: On a new piece of white cardstock draw wavy lines with your marker. Don’t fret if it doesn’t look even. You are just making a simple pattern with the markers. You could do straight lines, circles, triangles (or whatever!) if you prefer.

Step 7: Draw wavy lines going the other direction.

Here’s my finished card:

Holy cow! What an excellent tutorial on do it yourself DP to match your ink. This card is particularly impressive now that I know the behind the scenes ingenuity that went into it. You clearly ARE the master.

How adorable, Jeanne. I do think I could use my Copic’s with this technique since I am so challenged coloring with them.

What a cute card - like your idea of making your background. I was just talking to my husband this morning about me relying too much on pattern paper to set the tone for the card.

    Your tip was very timely!
